There’s no denying that Junior Dos Santos took a beating in his title fight with Cain Velasquez this past weekend. However, it seems like Velasquez scrambled his opponent’s brains even more than we thought.
According to a statement from JDS’s camp to Combate.com, Dos Santos thought the fight had ended in round two, and in fact has no memory of rounds three through five.
JDS’s coaches believe he was on “autopilot” for those rounds, but luckily, subsequent brain scans did not find any significant damage. It seems Dana White’s assessment that the fight should have been stopped much earlier though was right on the money.
In lighter news, Dos Santos seems optimistic, and ready for his next challenge.
“I’m feeling good,” he stated. “I came to the hospital to have some stitches in the cut I had. The pain is only in the heart, because I didn’t manage to give a good performance in the Octagon. Now it’s time to go back to the gym and train, dedicate myself to come back stronger than ever and, who knows, some day dispute the championship again and be able to honor the support from everybody who believed in me.”
