In a post-UFC 166 chat with Joe Rogan, Dana White revealed that Velasquez vs Werdum is being targeted as the next heavyweight title match up.
“We’ll probably do Werdum,” White said. “It probably makes the most sense. His whole game has improved. He’s a big, strong, tough, durable guy. His striking has improved.”
“[Werdum is] going to want to take it to the ground,” White added. “It makes this fight really interesting. Stylistically, we will see who has the better stand-up, and if it goes to the ground, I think for the first time that is a dangerous, dangerous fight for Velasquez.”
White declined to comment on when this bout might occur though, although a headliner for the UFC’s Super Bowl card seems like a possibility.
