Top ranked flyweights John Dodson and Darrell Montague went to war at UFC 166.
Dodson opened strong with some solid shots to the chin of Montague. As the opening round progressed, both fighters traded leg kicks and jabs, with neither able to gain a significant advantage. Then out of nowhere, Dodson floored Montague with a huge punch, and proceeded to swarm him with strikes as Montague desperately looked to get to his feet. Montague recovered and regained his footing, but Dodson continued to test his chin with solid strikes. One final left hand finally put Montague out cold, giving Dodson the third fastest KO in flyweight history.
In the post-fight interview, Dodson stated that his loss to Demetrious Johnson gave him more patience and calm, and helped him to find the KO opportunity.
