Flashback Fight Friday: Frank Shamrock vs Bas Rutten III

Check out MMA icons Bas Rutten and Frank Shamrock battling it out in Pancrase in this week’s installment of SciFighting.com’s Flashback Fight Friday!

The fight took place in Japan at Pancrase: Truth 5 in 1996. Pancrase used a modified MMA rules-set that didn’t allow close fisted strikes to the head, hence the palm strikes you’ll see, as well as a 10-count similar to boxing. It also allowed fighters to escape from submissions by touching the ropes, something they were only allowed to do a limited number of times per fight.
