A bout between #4 ranked welterweight Jake Ellenberger and former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine may headline the UFC’s Singapore debut.
The news comes from MMAjunkie.com, who report that the two have verbally agreed to the fight. The bout is expected to be the main event at the January 4 show in Singapore, although broadcast plans and a venue have not been revealed.
Ellenberger was most recently defeated by Rory MacDonald in July, moving MacDonald to #3 in the division. He is now 8-3 in the UFC, and 29-7 overall.
Saffiedine meanwhile posted four straight wins in Strikeforce before the promotion was closed. In the last ever bout in the organization’s history, he defeated Nate Marquardt to become the final Strikeforce welterweight champion. He is now 14-3 in his MMA career, and will be making his UFC debut on this card.
