UFC fighter and active police officer Matt Grice was critically injured in a car accident back in September. Since then, his condition has been improving, but still very serious.
Luckily, it seems that the latest update on his brain injury has been good news.
“We are seeing glimpses of Matt’s personality come back,” said Grice’s wife Caroline in an interview with KOCO. “Matt still has a long road ahead of him but still has such a determination in him. You can still see his fighter spirit and strength.”
“Because of the injury mentally Matt has been a bit all over the place. His brain is trying to place information together. We’ve been trying to keep things relaxed as the doctors have suggested and today I saw so many good glimpses of him “still being there,” she added on a Facebook page set up to update friends and family on Grice’s condition. “Particularly today he is really missing his girls. It’s sad of course, but something about seeing that emotion brings me so much joy. Can’t wait for a time when we can sit and relax at home, hear Matt and the kids and all the love and laughter.”
Grice’s most recent appearance in the octagon happened at UFC 157 in February, where he lost a close decision to Dennis Bermudez, earning a “Fight of the Night” award in the process.
He is currently 15-5 in his MMA career.
