UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be defending his title for ninth time against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November. To prepare for the bout, GSP has reportedly turned to Rick Story, Hendricks’ sole loss in his 16 fight career.
According to the champ, Story has been training with GSP at Tristar Gym.
“It’s a plus for me,” GSP said in an interview with La Presse. “He’s a guy with a similar style to Johny Hendricks. He’s also the last person to beat him. He won by decision. It was a close fight. But he won. He has even trained with him. He can give me some tricks, tell me how he is.”
“I wasn’t convinced at first.” Story added. “But I told myself it would be good for my career to work with a such a reputable camp. I am certain Johny [Hendricks] will understand my decision to come here. I have to do everything to succeed and he’ll understand that.”
Hendricks and Story fought at the TUF 12 finale, with Story edging out a close decision. The loss is Hendricks’ only defeat to date.
UFC 167 will take place on November 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
