Top welterweight prospects Erick Silva and Dong Hyun Kim met in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 29, with Kim landing an impressive one-punch knockout, improving his winning streak to three.
Silva opened the fight with a slick spinning elbow, prompting “Stun Gun” to look for a takedown against the cage. Kim returned the favor with a wild spinning-back fist, leading to another clinch on the fence. Just minutes into the round, a series of big exchanges left both fighters looking out of breath.
Kim then managed a beautiful rolling takedown, taking Silva’s back and transitioning into the full mount. Silva looked for sweeps and leglocks, but Kim managed to control the position. Silva’s tenacious escape attempts prevented Kim from doing any significant damage from the top.
Kim looked for another takedown early in the second round, but his aggression was met by huge strikes from Silva, including a flying knee. Kim looked to be in trouble, but recovered in the scramble, pinning Silva up against the cage. Silva continued to tag his opponent, however, with the Korean fighter looking sluggish.
What seemed like out of nowhere, Kim landed a picture-perfect left hand to the chin of SIlva, knocking him out cold. The finish came at 3:01 of the second round.
