After Thiago Silva missed weight on Tuesday by two pounds, he proved his worth at UFC Fight Night 29 with a hard fought unanimous-decision win over Matt Hamill in Sao Paulo.
The judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, and 29-27, all in favor of the Brazilian, Silva.
In the first round, Silva and Hamill went back and forth, but Silva landed the more powerful shots. Silva landed some hard leg kicks that tenderized the lead leg of Hamill and a hard left hand.
Early in round two, Hamill took Silva down but allowed him to recover and scramble to his feet. Silva, midway through the round, dropped Hamill with a big right and took his back but couldn’t hold position. An exhausted Hamill managed to work back to his feet and scored with the duck-under to take Silva’s back.
Silva started round three with the leg kicks again and Hamill’s lead leg started to buckle. Visibly tired, Hamill’s takedown attempts were all poorly set up and missed the mark. Silva kept landing hard leg kicks in the final stages of the fight with Hamill hunched over, wincing in pain until the final bell sounded.
The win over Hamill puts Silva on a two-fight win streak.
