UFC officials have confirmed a bout between Robert Whittaker and Brian Melancon, scheduled for UFC Fight Night 33.

Whittaker was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, and followed his UFC debut with a TKO win over Colton Smith at UFC 160. In August he picked up his first UFC defeat however, dropping a split decision to Court McGee. He is currently 11-3 overall.

Melancon will also be looking to rebound from a defeat after submitting to Kelvin Gastelum’s rear naked choke at UFC Fight Night 33 (coincidentally the same event Whittaker lost at). Prior to that, he picked up a dominating first round KO over Seth Baczynski at UFC 162. He is now 7-3.

UFC Fight Night 33 will take place on December 6 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Australia. It will be headlined by a bout between Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva.

The current card is as follows:

• Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva
• Mauricio Rua vs. James Te Huna
• Ryan Bader vs. Anthony Perosh
• Takeya Mizugaki vs. Nam Phan
• Pat Barry vs. Soa Palelei
• Dylan Andrews vs. Clint Hester
• Caio Magalhaes vs. Nick Ring
• Brian Melancon vs. Robert Whittaker
