Rebney tweeted Friday that he talked with free agent Askren and hinted he could re-sign the star athlete.

The undefeated Askren (12-0) is one of MMA’s brightest young stars. The former college wrestling star and member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team currently reigns as Bellator’s welterweight champion. His contract expired in August however, and rumors have swirled that Askren was going to the UFC or that he may even retire.
On Thursday, Askren himself tweeted that he wasn’t going to retire because he wanted to beat the UFC welterweight champion.

Bellator fought hard to keep lightweight Eddie Alvarez under contract. Although it hasn’t made the same public push to resign Askren, it’s not likely that the company would give up the undefeated star easily.
