Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White delivered a low blow to his organization’s rival, Bellator, stating that there was “no value in the company.” Unlike competitors such as Strikeforce, WEC, PRIDE, and others, White said he has no interest at all in considering a Bellator acquisition.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney has fired back in an interview with MMAFighting.
“It hasn’t been my practice to respond to his ongoing focus on Bellator,” Rebney said. “My focus is on the expansion of the Bellator brand worldwide and constantly creating a better more exciting, entertaining product for our fans. But… when he lofts softballs like this over the plate, you just have to take a swing. And, the facts here are that the UFC’s Partners at FOX just made a multi-year commitment, worth tens of millions of dollars to the Bellator brand. If that doesn’t paint a clear picture on value, I don’t know what would.”
Rebney is referring to the recent deal Bellator inked with FOX Sports Latin America, which would extend the promotion’s reach into millions of homes internationally.
That probably wouldn’t mean much to Dana White though, who has already stated that FOX Sports Latin America approached Bellator because they weren’t able to attract the UFC.
