Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson’s UFC 165 bout was one of the closest title fights in recent memory, and a decision that will likely be debated all the way up until an eventual rematch.

Earlier today, the Ontario’s Office of the Athletics Commissioner released the judges’ round-by-round scoring, giving us a little insight into how the unanimous decision was tallied.

Take a look:

Judge Chris Lee
Rd. 1: Gustafsson 10-9
Rd. 2: Jones 10-9
Rd. 3: Jones 10-9
Rd. 4: Jones 10-9
Rd. 5: Jones 10-9

Judge Richard Bertrand
Rd. 1: Gustafsson 10-9
Rd. 2: Jones 10-9
Rd. 3: Gustafsson 10-9
Rd. 4: Jones 10-9
Rd. 5: Jones 10-9

Judge Doug Crosby
Rd. 1: Gustafsson 10-9
Rd. 2: Gustafsson 10-9
Rd. 3: Jones 10-9
Rd. 4: Jones 10-9
Rd. 5: Jones 10-9
From this new information, we can understand how the fight played out in the judges’ minds a bit better.

It’s clear that Gustafsson won the first round, especially with the cut, and that’s reflected across all three score cards. By the second round though, things get a little bit murky.

Two out of the three judges handed it to Jones, while Crosby scored it in Gustafsson’s favor. In round three, it happened again, with two judges going Jones, and one giving it to the challenger.

By the fourth though, it was all Jones, with all three judges giving the championship rounds to “Bones.”

Whether you agree with their assessments or not though, it’s hard to deny that it was an extremely competitive match up. Even with the scores released, this is one championship fight that won’t be truly settled until one of them is knocked out or tapping.
