The first round of tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter: Nations went down earlier this week in Toronto, Canada. Around 70 middleweights and welterweights were present to display their abilities for UFC matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby, all vying for a spot in the TUF house.
UFC Director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright reported that every province of the country was represented by at least one fighter at the tryouts.
Highlight appearances of the day include 8-0 Bellator vet Elias “The Spartan” Theodorou, and 4-0 Olivier Aubin-Mercier, who has won every one of his fights within the first two minutes by rear naked choke.
Silva and Shelby assessed the fighters through rounds of kickboxing and grappling, before passing their top selections to the show’s producers for their final picks. Unlike previous seasons of The Ultimate Fighter, this one is being handled by a production group known as Those Canadians.
The theme of Nations will be Australia vs Canada, with the Canadian Patrick Cote and Australian Kyle Noke serving as the coaches.
Filming is set to begin in October, with a January premiere date currently planned. It will air on FOX in the US, Rogers in Canada, TVA in Quebec, and FX in Australia.
