Two Ultimate Fighter winners are set to battle it out at UFC on Fox 9. UFC officials have announced that season 17’s Kelvin Gastelum and season 11’s Court McGee will meet in a welterweight match up at the December event.
Gastelum won The Ultimate Fighter 17, besting heavy favorite Uriah Hall in the finale. The 21 year old fighter has subsequently continued his undefeated streak, dropping to welterweight and defeating Brian Melancon via submission. He is easily one of the division’s top prospects, and with a record like his at such a young age, he likely has an extremely bright future in the sport. He is currently 2-0 in the UFC, and 7-0 overall.
McGee was also a middleweight season winner, defeating Kris McCray at The Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. He went 3-2 in the weight class before dropping to welterweight and earning back to back wins against Robert Whittaker and Josh Neer. He is now 5-2 in the UFC, and 16-3 in his career.
Both fighters are likely on the cusp of top ten placement, and a big win here would do a lot to help them cement their place in the division.
UFC on FOX 9 will take place on December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. It will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between the newly crowned Anthony Pettis and challenger Josh Thomson.
