Before his UFC title defense against light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson, Jon Jones was able to scoop up a sponsorship deal with the sports drink company Gatorade. Jones’ team at First Round Management released the information on the recent deal.
“It’s great that a company like Gatorade sees the value that their products bring to MMA athletes,” Jones said in a statement. “They’re one of the biggest brands in sports, worldwide, and I am honored to have their support moving forward. It does not get any better than Gatorade when it comes to fueling your body during training and competition.”
This huge sponsorship deal comes at a pivotal time in Jones’s MMA career. With a win over Gustafsson, he can break the record for the most UFC light heavyweight title defenses in a row, a record previously held by Tito Ortiz.
Gatorade is considered one of Jones’ biggest sponsors, joining the likes of Nike, which the fighter signed a sponsorship deal with in 2012.
