Chad Mendes and Nik Lentz are officially set to meet in a main card match up at UFC on Fox 9. Both fighters are top 10 ranked featherweights, and a win here for either of them could easily put them in line for the next title shot.
Despite a title fight defeat to Jose Aldo at UFC 142, Mendes has managed to maintain his position as the division’s top contender. He’s racked up four straight KO/TKO victories in the past year, bringing his UFC record to 6-1. He is currently 24-5 overall.
Lentz meanwhile is quickly becoming one of the division’s top fighters. He’s rattled off three wins in a row since debuting in the weight class, establishing himself as the #7 featherweight in the UFC. He is currently 8-2 in the promotion, and 24-5 overall.
UFC on Fox 9 will take place on December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. The main event is set to be a lightweight title fight between the newly crowned Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson.
The current card is as follows:
• Anthony Pettis vs. Josh Thomson
• Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald
• Nik Lentz vs. Chad Mendes
• Scott Jorgensen vs. Ian McCall
