Michael Bisping seems to be a perennial presence in the UFC’s middleweight division, and despite losing both title eliminator fights he’s been in, he’s still managed to maintain a position in the top 5 of the division.
He’ll be facing Mark Munoz next in the main event of UFC Fight Night 30: Bisping vs Munoz; and if he beats the #5 ranked Munoz next month, he’ll have taken one big step closer to his first title shot.
Who will he face next though? The logical choice would be the #3 ranked Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, a notion that Bisping agrees with.
Jacare is definitely a title contender now,” Bisping said in an interview with The Telegraph. “He could be my next opponent after Munoz. Who knows? Vitor Belfort is there and now there’s Jacare and Chael and Lyoto Machida’s coming down. The middleweight division is really stacked so my job’s getting harder by the day, which is annoying but I’ve never wanted an easy run at the title. If I’m not good enough then that’s the way it is. I think I am but you’ve got to fight and win fights to prove that.”
Jacare last defeated previous title contender Yushin Okami in dominant fashion at UFC Fight Night 28, his fifth win a row.
UFC Fight Night 30 will take place on October 26 at the Manchester Arena in the UK. It will air live on FOX Sports 2.
