Rony Mariano Injured, Will Not Compete at UFC Fight Night 29


A lumbar hernia has forced Rony “Jason” Mariano off of the UFC Fight Night 29 card. The Brazilian Athletic Commission has confirmed that the featherweight fighter will not be allowed to face off against Jeremy Stephens as planned.

The UFC has not yet announced if Mariano will be replaced, or if the match up will simply be postponed.

UFC Fight Night 29 will take place on October 9 in Barueri, Sao Paulo. It will be headlined by a bout between Demian Maia and Jake Shields, and will air live on Fox Sports 1.

• Jeremy Stephens vs. TBD
• Thiago Silva vs. Matt Hamill
