In his latest Google+ Hangout chat, Dana White revealed the highest amount the UFC has ever paid out to a fighter. He was asked by a fan if an MMA fighter would ever see the level of money that a boxer like Floyd Mayweather might receive (he was paid a guaranteed purse of over $40 million for his recent fight).
To answer the question, White called up Lorenzo Fertitta to ask what the most the UFC has ever paid, and revealed that:
“We paid a guy $5 million for a fight before, [but] we didn’t start making money until 2007. That was six years ago. So boxing’s been around for a 100 years, they’ve been doing big events since way back when. Pretty amazing what we have done in short amount of time. I don’t think a lot of people look at that way and break it down for what it really is.”
Sadly, White didn’t reveal who that $5 million fighter was. Fans have so far speculated that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar or former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell might be likely candidates.
