Ranked number nine in the UFC light heavyweight division, Mauricio Shogun Rua takes on James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night 33. After a quick submission loss to Cheal Sonnen in what was hyped up to be a much more competitive match, Shogun looks to reclaim his former standing at light heavyweight. James Te Huna had looked fantastic, winning four fights in a row before he was steamrolled by Glover Teixeira in his last match, losing by guillotine. It is obvious these men have much to fight for. Often criticized by MMA hardcore fans for not living up to expectations he set for himself in Pride, Mauricio Rua has spent six years in the octagon attempting to regain MMA fan’s faith in his career. James Te Huna on the other hand, has built little hype for himself and may be seeing a finish or dominant win over Shogun as his ticket to exposure.
It is expected that UFC Fight Night 33 will air on Fox Sports 1, December 7th, in the Queensland capital at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Headlining the card with be Antonio Silva vs Mark Hunt. These two heavyweights have both been extremely impressive. Hunt came off of a long losing streak to enter the UFC where he lost his first fight and gave little doubt he would be cut. After that loss however, Hunt went on to win his next four where he destroyed big named like Ben Rothwell, Cheick Kongo, and Stefan Struve. Though he is coming off of a loss to Junior Dos Santos, Mark Hunt still has plenty of hype surrounding him. Recently annihilating Allistair Overeem, Bigfoot Silva has shown to be a heavyweight who always finds a way to win. With wins over Andrei Arlovski, Fedor Emelianenko, and Travis Browne he shows that he has just as much of a chance to take this fight as Hunt.
