Two new match ups are being planned for December’s UFC on Fox 9 event. A bantamweight bout between top contenders Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald has been set, a fight that will likely determine who gets a crack at the eventual unified title next.
McDonald has lost just one match in the UFC, a title fight with current interim champion Renan Barão. He is currently coming off of a submission victory over Brad Pickett at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs Sonnen, bringing his record to 16-2.
Faber is currently riding a three fight winning streak. He has accrued a 6-2 record since dropping to 135, with his only losses coming from interim champion Barão and current champion Dominick Cruz. He likewise competed on the August 17 Fight Night card, besting Iuri Alcantara in a unanimous decision. He is currently 29-6 overall.
Faber and McDonald are currently ranked #2 and #3 in the UFC’s bantamweight division, respectively.
In addition, a lightweight title fight between T.J. Grant and the newly crowned Anthony Pettis is being targeted for the show, although it has not yet been made official.
UFC on Fox 9 will take place on December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. It will air live on FOX Sports 1.
