On the heels of his defeat at Bellator 98, Giva “The Arm Collector” Santana has announced his retirement from competitive MMA. Despite a strong start, the 41 year old fighter was taken down with punches by Jason Butcher in the second round.

Santana began his career with an impressive 11 fight winning streak, including 10 wins by armbar, which earned him the nickname. He eventually lost a split decision to Jaime Jara in 2008, but bounced back with five wins in various organizations. He made his Bellator debut in 2011, and went 2-2 in the promotion. He holds an 18-3 record overall.

Santana cites mounting injuries as the main reason for his decision. He will now turn his full attention to coaching Team Oyama.
