After his impressive win over the #3 ranked Yushin Okami, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is on the fast track to a middleweight title fight; that is, unless Anderson Silva beats Chris Weidman in December.
Jacare demolished Okami in less than three minutes in the recent FOX Sports 1 event. That win puts him just under Vitor Belfort on the middleweight totem pole. In terms of who he will fight next though, Souza is ready for anyone, but he really hopes he isn’t paired against his friend and training partner Anderson Silva.
“Anderson is someone I don’t want to fight,” Souza said in an interview with MMA Junkie. “He’s someone who’s in my camp; he’s my friend. He helps me, and I help him. So I wouldn’t be a good character if I said I wanted to fight him.”
However, if the match is made, Jacare isn’t going complain.
“I’m a UFC fighter, and I hope the UFC never gives us this fight, but I’m ready to face anyone in the world in my weight class, and also at 205,” he stated.
“I’ve not complained, because I’ve done two very quick fights. The UFC already gave me very strong opponents, and I like this opponent very much. And I tell you, I’m ready for anyone.”
“I’m not going to ask for any opponents. I’m going to go to camp and train and be ready to face any opponent, because I’m an employee who loves to work,” he concluded.
Jacare is currently 2-0 in the UFC, and 19-3 overall, including a Strikeforce world title.
