It’s finally been settled, Chael Sonnen officially has an opponent for the UFC’s 20th anniversary event. Sonnen will meet Rashad “Suga” Evans in what is expected to be the co-main event of UFC 167.
After back to back losses against Jon Jones and Anderson Silva, Sonnen had considered returning to the middleweight division. However, after his recent, dominant win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, it seems “The American Gangster” is looking to stick it out at 205.
Rashad Evans likewise recently broke a two fight losing streak, including a defeat at the hands of Jon Jones. He ended that career lull with a win over another former PRIDE fighter, Dan Henderson, via a split decision at UFC 161.
With Evans at #5 and Sonnen at #9 in the division, this match will likely put either of them close to a title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson.
UFC 167 will take place on November 16 in Las Vegas. It will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks.
The current, updated card is as follows:
• Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks
• Rashad Evans vs. Chael Sonnen
• Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald
• Josh Koscheck vs. Tyron Woodley
