Jon “Bones” Jones will meet Alexander Gustafsson in a title defense at UFC 165 in a few weeks. No matter who comes out on top though, Glover Texeira will almost certainly be next in line for a shot at the belt, that is, if he can defeat Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28.

Texeira realizes that his title aspirations are on the line here, and wants to make a big impression in his next fight.

“I think I have to go in there and prove that I’m there for the title shot,” he said in a recent interview on The MMA Hour. “I can’t go and do a boring fight. Chuck [Liddell] used to tell me all the time, ‘If you want to win fans and get fights and get to the title, go over there and excite the fans and prove and show yourself and beat these guys impressive.’ This is the way I been fighting. I go to finish all my fights, it doesn’t matter what way. I go for knockout, but if I see an opening I will go for the submission.”

That shouldn’t be a huge problem for Teixeira, who has been able to finish his opponent in 18 of his 21 wins.

As for a potential title shot, Teixeira doesn’t know whether Jones or Gustafsson will win at UFC 165, but he does admit that he’d rather fight Jon Jones for the belt.

“It’s hard for me to say I’m rooting for [Jones] because Gustafsson has been working hard and wants the title, but, in a way, yeah, if Jon Jones wins it’s better for me,” he says.
“If I get to fight the champion, it’s better fighting Jon Jones because he has the bigger name. It’s kind of like Weidman beating Anderson Silva. It’s great for him, but If someone goes now and beats Weidman its not the same thing, know what I mean?”

Glover Texeira will headline a UFC Fight Night later tonight in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will air live on FOX Sports 1, with the main card starting at 4:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. ET.
