Rashad Evans Accepts Chael Sonnen’s Challenge for UFC 167

Chael Sonnen seems awfully desperate to compete on the UFC 167 card. A very intriguing match up with Wanderlei Silva didn’t pan out due to Silva’s injuries, followed by another possible bout with Phil Davis falling through as well. It seems “The American Gangster” is running out of potential opponents, and is now turning to his friend and fellow broadcaster Rashad “Suga” Evans for one last shot at a November fight.

Sonnen recently called out “Suga,” prompting Evans to tell his Instagram followers that he was more than up for the challenge, saying:

“Its on and poppin!! Today @sonnench Chael extended an invitation I couldn’t turn down! He is my friend but I will put that aside to fight him! We can go back to being friends after I beat that ass!! #ufc167”

Sonnen is currently coming off of a very impressive win, submitting former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua with a guillotine choke in the first round. Evans meanwhile recently defeated Dan Henderson via a split decision at UFC 161 in June.

With UFC 167 less than three months away though, time is running out for the UFC to get this match up put together. Expect some official confirmation one way or the other in the coming weeks.

UFC 167 will take place on November 16, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will be headlined by a title fight between welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and number one contender Johny Hendricks.
