Chael Sonnen is a man who isn’t afraid to ask for the fights he wants, but it takes two to tango. MMAFighting reached out to Dana White, and he responded via text message:

“[Silva] said he won’t fight him unless he gets PPV [points] so I guess he’s gonna retire.”

For those who are unaware, pay-per-view points are a system of rewarding fighters with increasing financial incentives based on the buy-rate of the pay-per-view card they are competing on. These rewards increase dramatically as higher buy-rates are achieved, and can lead to hefty pay days for fighters that can negotiate these bonuses into their contracts.

With Vitor Belfort booked for a rematch against Dan Henderson, and Lyoto Machida facing Tim Kennedy, it will be interesting to see who the UFC seeks as an opponent for Sonnen. SciFighting will keep you up to date as more details emerge.
