Jessica Eye is officially joining the UFC. According to a recent report on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight, her debut fight may be against the former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman.
A subsequent report on MMAjunkie.com pointed towards UFC 166 as the venue for this match up. The event will take place on October 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston. The main card will air on PPV, with the prelims on Fox Sports 1 and Facebook. It will be headlined by a rubber match between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former champion Junior dos Santos.
Kaufman was previously slated to face Sara McMann at UFC Fight Night 27, but the match was cancelled when McMann had to withdraw. Kaufman is currently 16-2, with a recent controversial decision win over Leslie Smith at Invicta FC 5.
Despite being a UFC newcomer, Jessica Eye is no pushover. The 10-1 fighter is currently on a seven fight winning streak, and during her recent stint with Bellator, she choked out the 125 pound title holder with a standing arm-triangle choke in under a minute. Her Bellator contract recently expired, giving her the opportunity to join up with the UFC’s growing female roster.
