UFC Fight Night 29 Officially Confirmed, to Be Headlined by Demian Maia Vs. Jake Shields

After weeks of speculation, UFC Fight Night 29 has finally been officially confirmed. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 9 at the Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The card will be headlined by a five-round non-title fight between Jake Shields and the Brazilian Demian Maia. It will air live on FOX Sports 1, with prelims available to watch on Facebook.

Shields is coming off of a split decision win over Tyron Woodley at UFC 161. Previous to that, Shields had a decision victory against Ed Herman overturned when he failed a post-fight drug test. The former Strikeforce champion will be looking to get back onto the road to the title, and hopefully break into the welterweight top ten with a win over Demian Maia.

Maia meanwhile is on a three fight winning streak, defeating Jon Fitch, Rick Story, and Dong Hyun Kim since his move to welterweight last year. After losses to both Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva at middleweight, Maia seems to have found much better luck at 170. He is currently ranked #4 in the division.

Also on the card are match-ups between Dong Hyun Kim and Erick Silva, Rony Jason vs Jeremy Stephens, Matt Hamill vs Thiago Silva, and four other confirmed fights.
