Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler are still set to go head-to-head in the near future, according to UFC president Dana White.
“We like that fight,” White told MMAjunkie.com. “I think so, yeah [it is happening].”
White did not provide a precise timeline for the fight.
Rory MacDonald is currently on a hell of a winning streak, picking up five straight victories over the likes of B.J. Penn, Mike Pyle, Nate Diaz, and most recently, Jake Ellenberger at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Moraga in July. He has only lost once in his career, falling to former UFC champion Carlos Condit in 2010, and holds a 15-1 overall record. According to the official UFC rankings, MacDonald is currently #3 in the welterweight division.
Robbie Lawler has grabbed back-to-back victories over Josh Koscheck at UFC 157 and Bobby Voelker at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs Moraga. He currently holds a 21-9 overall record. “Ruthless” is currently ranked #9 in the division.
A MacDonald victory will likely put him in line for a rematch with Carlos Condit en route to a title shot, while a win for Lawler will almost certainly rocket him to the top five.
