After successfully undergoing surgery, UFC veteran Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira anticipates returning to the octagon later this year. According to a report by UFC Tonight, “Minotauro” could face none other than Stefan Struve.
Struve fired warning shots back in June, taking to twitter to say of Nogueira “I love that fight! Respect him but would love to scrap with him! Me vs Big Nog?” Nogueira told MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani that “the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Let’s get it on.” The UFC never commented on the bout, but now it seems it could become a reality.
Both men are known for excitement and resiliency inside the cage, so the conditions leading up to this fight are not surprising. Both men needed reparative surgery following their previous fight, with Struve suffering a badly broken jaw at the hands of Mark Hunt, and Nogueira experiencing a minor tear from a Werdum armbar. Neither man has ever lost two in a row in the octagon, and they own 9 “of the night” bonuses between them. This looks to be the makings of an excitement fight that can be added to the main card of UFC 168. Nogueira has expressed interest in competing on the same card as Anderson Silva, his friend and training partner, so it is likely that the bout will added to the December 28, 2013 billing. We will let you know once the match has been made official.
