The Pay-Per-View portion of the card kicked off with exciting Flyweight contender John Lineker taking on UFC newcomer Jose Marie Tome of Brazil. Despite his lack of Octagon experience, Tome entered the bout with a stellar 33-3 record. Lineker had difficulty making the 125 lb. limit, forcing him to give up 20% of his purse and changing the bout to a 129 lb. catch weight. Both men exchanged heavy leather early in the fight, with Lineker looking dazed on a number of occasions. Despite a few low blows that momentarily stopped the action the tilt was filled with exciting striking exchanges. Midway through the second round it appeared that Tome injured his right leg, and Lineker was able to capitalize on the opportunity to finish the fight with a series of unanswered ground strikes. Despite his weight difficulties Lineker continues to make his claim for a title shot in a rather shallow division.
