If anyone has been keeping close tabs on the sports world in general, you may have heard about the big scandal surrounding the Biogenesis Clinic. Recently Porter Fischer, a former Biogenesis clinic employee, unearthed boxes of documents and turned them over to the Miami New Times. Within these documents and in an interview on “Outside the Lines”, Fischer said that there were many sports with at least one athlete who received performance-enhancing drugs from their clinic founder, Tony Bosch.
Fischer and associates have identified athletes ranging from NBA, NCAA, Professional Boxing, Tennis, MMA and most notably MLB. “This isn’t a 2013 thing or a 2012 thing; some of these people have been on the books since 2009.” Fisher states. “In just the four years that I know, it’s got to be well over a hundred, easy“.
There have been names given to the MLB of about 20-25 athletes, including Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun who has agreed to a 65-game suspension and forfeiture of his remaining salary. No names have been openly identified in the MMA world as of late, but seeing how some high profile training camps come from the surrounding Florida area of the clinic, American Top Team, Blackzillians and Fight Zone to name a few, it’s easy to suggest how many fighters might possibly have received something from Biogenesis.
It hasn’t been announced if the UFC has taken any interest in the allegations or that if they did receive any further info that they would do an investigation of their own. Fischer didn’t say if the MMA fighters originated from the Florida but it would be easy to suggest. Give us your input on this topic and stay glued to the site as the information becomes available we will keep you informed of names and what is to happen.
