UFC 168 is already shaping up to be one of the best cards of the year. With Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman clashing in a highly anticipated rematch and with Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate wanting to tear each other limbs off. There’s no doubt that this will be the card to watch this year. Looks like Gegard Mousasi wants to join that epic card and he want “The Phenom” to join him inside the octagon to duke it out.
Speaking with Tatame, Mousasi discussed as to why this bout makes perfect sense:
“The reality is this – Silva vs Weidman II is going to have to happen first on December 28th,” said Mousasi. “Vitor has to wait for a title shot no matter what. I know the UFC wants to see this fight happen as they offered it to me for UFC Belo Horizonte in September. I could not take the fight because I just had surgery. So, it is inevitable that Vitor and I are going to have to meet first to determine who the #1 contender is. So my opinion is that we should also fight on December 28th on the same card as Anderson v. Weidman II to determine the #1 contender spot for the UFC middleweigh title.
“It is as simple as this. Vitor and I were supposed to fight in the past for both Affliction and now the UFC. Vitor knows that it is inevitable that we are going to have to meet in the Octagon.”
If the UFC is truly on board with this kind of match-up, then it makes perfect sense for the division. Vitor has been clamoring for another shot at the title but it seems like he would need one more fight to justify his chance at UFC gold.
Mousasi is one of the toughest fighters on the planet and is definitely deserving of a title shot if he can defeat Belfort.
What do you guys think? Should this fight come to fruition or does Vitor deserve the winner already?
