Jon Jones and Dan Henderson were supposed to compete back at UFC 151 for the light heavyweight championship. We all know the saga that took place and it seems like Jones has no desire to fight against Henderson anytime soon. Dan is currently on a two-fight losing streak and looks like his chances at competing for the championship are slim. When MMAmania asked the UFC light heavyweight champion his thoughts on Henderson, this is what he had to say.
“I have no wishes to fight Dan Henderson. Dan Henderson is a guy who, you know, he’s done a lot for this sport already, he’s a lot older. I think he’s a guy a lot of people would expect me to beat anyways. So I have no big dreams of fighting Dan Henderson.”
“[Henderson’s] last fight with Rashad Evans you could really see him starting to slow down,” Jones said. “So fighting him I don’t think really proves much.”
Jones stated that after he breaks the record for most UFC light heavyweight defenses, he will be looking to take his talents up to the heavyweight division and see what challenges lie ahead.
He will be defending the championship at UFC 165 against Alexander Gustafsson. Both are young competitors and Alexander is one of the last few contenders left in the division.
Will Jon Jones continue to compete at light heavyweight after this bout. He has to get through the man known as The Mauler first but one things for sure. We would love to see him compete against some of the big boys in heavyweight.
