In any combat sports, not wearing the right clothing in a women’s bout could end up not being a bad night for the poor lady. Slips can happen from time to time. Ronda Rousey almost had it happen to her during her fight against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. While Carmouche had a neck crank on her opponent, Rousey had to focus on getting out of the situation and also fixing her top. Not the funnest thing in the world. Fortunately for her, she was able to take care of both and ultimately won the fight, without losing any excess of clothing with her.
Ronda recently talked to ESPNW about the incident and boobs in mixed martial arts in general:
“When someone’s on your back trying to rip your head off, things tend to slip around a bit, I got kicked straight in the chest right as I was trying to adjust my bra.”
“Gina Carano was an amazing fighter. “And she had a fantastic rack. You don’t see big titties in the Olympics, and I think that’s for a reason.”
Gina Carano retired from mixed martial arts back in 2009, losing to Cris Cyborg in the biggest bout in women’s MMA history, at the time. Gina decided to take her talents to tinseltown and have been missed ever since.
One loss shouldn’t define someone as an athlete but unfortunately for Gina, that’s really the biggest impact she made. Women’s mixed martial arts will be here to stay and as long as they have superstars like Ronda Rousey on the horizon, everything will turn out to be just fine.
