A bout between two perennial welterweight contenders is on the horizon. They are both former champions of different organization and are looking to get a chance at the UFC welterweight championship. Former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard will drop to 170 to take on former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt.
Both fighters are currently coming off of losses respectively. Hector Lombard lost to Yushin Okami back at UFC on Fuel TV 8 and Marquardt recently lost to Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158. A win is crucial for both fighters as a loss will likely spell the end for their chances of ever getting a UFC welterweight title shot.
Hector Lombard will be using the assistance of Mike Dolce to ensure that he makes the 170 lb limit as safe and healthy as possible.
This fight will be taking place October 19th at The Toyota Center in Houston Texas. The main event of the card will be Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos tangling a third time to see who is the best heavyweight in the world and to see who wins this rubber match.
There’s no word as of yet as to where the bout is scheduled to take place on the card, but more than likely this fight will be on the main card. They are both popular fighters and it makes the most sense to not have them be on the preliminary portion.
Both fighters are in desperate needs of a win. Who takes this battle of former champions?
