MMA veteran Gilbert Yvel has decided to calls it quits on his mixed martial arts career. He”s competed against some of the best heavyweight of all time. Yvel was made famous because of his in-your-face fight style and for the fact that he’s been extremely controversial. He knocked out a referee one time and got himself disqualified.
Yvel, who made the announcement via groundandpound.de, said the timing was right after a series of fight postponements and cancellations, as well as a kidney issue.
“I’m pretty much done,” the 37-year-old said. “I’ve been fighting for the last 16 years. … I’m done. I’m tired. I don’t want to punch nobody anymore. I want to teach people, train and have fun. I’ve been fighting for 16 years. That’s a long time.”
He competed against Junior dos Santos, Ben Rothwell, and Josh Barnett during his career as a mixed martial artist. His last fight was against Houston Alexander back in March of last year.
