Renzo Gracie is a true legend in mixed martial arts. The UFC held an event in Abu Dhabi a few years ago and Gracie was there to witness the action. It was UFC 112 and the main event was Anderson Silva against Damien Maia. Let’s just say that Gracie was not impressed with what he saw that night.
He spoke with The Fight Network about how Anderson Silva needs to be humbled:
“Anderson is a guy that rubs many people the wrong way. He’s not a humble guy. Even though he may speak humbly when he talks, when he’s in the ring he doesn’t act humble. He puts down his opponents. He acts in a way that again, we always know what is right and wrong, and by looking at that, we know it’s wrong. It’s like you can beat your opponent, but do it with respect.”
Anderson has from time to time showed antics that could come off as disrespectful. He’s a master of mentally getting in the head of his opponents. Letting his hands down allowing his opponent to try and hit him but being able to avoid it with just head movement.
Maybe Chris Weidman is just the guy to humble Anderson Silva. We also thought that way when it came to Chael Sonnen. We all know how that went.
