Josh Thomson has been hearing the discussion of a possible bout between him and Diego Sanchez. Safe to say, he’s not interested. There’s only one person that has caught the attention of the man known as the punk and that’s UFC lightweight champion Diego Sanchez. “The Punk” gave his thoughts on Diego and Benson to MMA Weekly:
“Do you think the lion turned around every time a little dog barked? No. I’m focused on one guy. I’m focused on Benson, that’s it. I don’t really care about anybody else. I told the UFC before I came over, whoever you guys want me to fight so I can line up to fight Benson, that’s who I want to fight. Stylistically, I think we match up well.”
That’s the right mindset to have when competing in the UFC, but he still has to fight at least once more before competing for the UFC lightweight championship. Would Diego Sanchez be the right fit? No, he barely won his last bout against Takanori Gomi in a bout that no one thought he won.
Perhaps a bout with Donald Cerrrone, if he’s victorious against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2. They both have an exciting skill set and could produce a fight of the year kind of fight.
There’s also the last man to defeat Benson Henderson that’s waiting for a fight. Anthony Pettis. Let Thomson and Pettis duke it out to see who the next contender is for the lightweight championship.
