Carlos Condit has plenty of motivation going into his bout with Martin Kampmann at UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2. They will be the main event for the crowd of Indianapolis and there’s still a huge grudge for Condit in this fight. They have competed against each other once before at Ultimate Fight Night 18 back in 2009. It was Condit’s UFC debut and he was unable to get the victory that night. Losing by split decision.
Condit is currently on a two-fight losing streak but it still keeps him as a top five welterweight. He’s losses to number one Georges St. Pierre and number two Johny Hendricks hardly hurts his standing. A loss against Martin Kampmann would hinder his chances of getting another shot at the welterweight championship.
He recently discussed with Bleacher Report on his thoughts on Kampmann and what adjustments he’s making to win the second time around:
“I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to avenge that loss. It was a really close fight. I had some opportunities in that fight to end it and I didn’t. That night Martin was a better man and he won the fight. What’s exciting about this match up is he’s improved so much as a fighter since then as have I. We are both hungry. This is kind of a ‘do or die’ fight for both of us. I’m coming off two losses in a row. He’s coming off a loss. This is a crazy sport and a crazy business. You never know when you are going to get that pink slip. We are both highly motivated to go in there and get the win.”
Both men are looking to come back from recent losses to Johny Hendricks. Who moves up the rankings and who moves towards the bottom of the top ten? We will find out at UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2.
