Antonio Nogueira competes against Fabricio Werdum this weekend at UFC on Fuel TV 10. People think that he revived his career when he defeated Dave Herman at UFC 153 in Brazil. Not necessarily. Everyone expected Nogueira to defeat Herman. Dave was on a two fight losing streak prior to his defeat to Nogueira. So we can’t say that his career is truly on the incline.
A win over Werdum would be just the defining victory to show that he’s still got what it takes to be an elite heavyweight. Werdum has looked amazing since leaving the UFC and joining Strikeforce back in 2009. He’s won 5 of his last 6 bouts and he’s the first man to submit legendary heavyweight Feder Emeliananko. He’s currently ranked as the third contender in the heavyweight division.
Some fans/media alike think that the best days of Nogueira are behind him. It could be true for all we know. This Saturday, he’s got the opportunity to prove critics wrong and show us that he’s still the same heavyweight who went to war with fighters Feder Emeliananko, Josh Barnett, and Randy Couture.
This is a big fight for the career of Antonio Nogueira and could be a career defining fight for him. There’s a lot riding on this fight and we get to see how much mileage he’s got left in his tank.
