UFC 163 is starting to pick up. It also looks like Lyoto Machida has one more fight to go before getting his shot at the UFC light heavyweight championship. According to Brazil’s Portal Do Vale Judo, Machida will be fighting against perennial contender Phil Davis in Brazil.
Lyoto Machida last defeated Dan Henderson at UFC 157. Most people figured that if Henderson was successful, he’d get a shot at Jon Jones. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in beating Machida and he lost by split decision.
Phil Davis competed at UFC 159 against Vinny Magalhaes and defeated him with a one-sided unanimous decision. His striking has improved significantly and it showed during his bout with Magalhaes.
Both fighters are looking to get a shot at UFC gold. Both men need a statement defining victory to make that final push towards the top.
Machida was originally thought to be the next contender to Jon Jones’ title. Does that mean Gustaffson is getting the title shot next after all?
