Anderson Silva Wants Jones… Roy Jones Jr.

Anderson Silva wants a bout with Jones. Just not the Jones that we’re used to hearing about. If Anderson has it his way, he wouldn’t be competing against Jon Jones or Georges St. Pierre. He wants Roy Jones Jr.

Anderson Silva talked to the New York Post about his desires to compete against the boxing legend.

“I think everyone’s got something they’re focused on and that’s my own desire, something I’d like to do. Maybe one day when I’m done my UFC career, I will box Roy Jones.”

That’s something I’d really be interested in. Maybe [UFC President] Dana [White] should do this fight.”

Looks like if Anderson has his way. There would be only one super fight for him. He just recently signed another 10 fight deal with the UFC. The only way this fight happens is if Dana is on board.

Will we see this boxing bout happen? Doubtful, but you never know with Dana. What do you guys feel about this? Should Anderson get to box Roy Jones Jr. or just stick with mixed martial arts?

I don’t think there should be any problem with the fight happening. If Silva is as good as he thinks it will be a huge boost for MMA for one of its champions to beat a boxing legend in a boxing match. The UFC has already set the precedent allowing James Toney an MMA novice to fight seasoned MMA Champion Randy Couture. They also let Ray Mercer fight Kimbo Slice. So what is the big deal with allowing Anderson Silva to box Roy Jones. SIlva to his credit did box professionally taking on a guy who was 11-2 in his first bout (a loss) and winning his second bout.
