Josh Thomson is coming off an impressive win over Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 7 and it looks like he has an opponent in mind for his next bout.
With all of top ten lightweights currently occupied, there is one top lightweight that is currently available, Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone. This match-up would be an explosive one to say the least. Both are dynamic strikers and like to put on a good fight for the fans.
Thomson discussed his thoughts with M.M.A. Heat.
“I’m talking, like who’s next? I’m assuming like, probably Cerrone if he wins. I just beat K.J. so I don’t see that happening. Nate’s out for I don’t know how long because of his suspension, so, I don’t really see anyone else in the top 10 that I think they are going to have me fight. I think [Cerrone is] the only option that they will probably give me if he wins tonight. If he doesn’t win, then, I’ve already beat K.J. If it gets me to the shot at the title, whoever they want me to fight.”
Cerrone was successful in defeating KJ Noons this past weekend. He did suffer a gnarly cut on his left elbow from elbowing Noons’ face too many times during their bout. Once he’s all healed up, a bout between these two lightweights seems inevitable.
