Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne are making their way to Boston for UFC in Fox Sports 1. Both heavyweight fighters are looking to make their way up to title contention and to fight for the heavyweight title, which currently held by Cain Velasquez. It is confirmed that this bout is not the main event of UFC on Fox Sports 1.
Alistair Overeem is one of the more popular heavyweight currently in the UFC. He was one fight away from a title shot, and competing against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. Overeem dominated the first two rounds of their bout at UFC 156, seemingly getting more confident and not protecting himself throughout the fight. The third round Silva was able to pick Overeem apart and pull off the upset with a devastating TKO. A win here for Overeem would erase that loss and move him back into a contenders bout for the heavyweight title.
Travis Browne rebounded from a loss to Antonio Silva at UFC on FX 5, defeating Gabriel Gonzaga at The Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. A win for Travis Browne would be huge for the heavyweight contender. Overeem is still considered to be a top fighter in the heavyweight division. A win here would vault Browne into the elite of the division and would provide another high profile heavyweight bout to move him towards a title shot.
The fact that this is not event the headliner of the event, shows that the UFC is looking at making the most of their first UFC on Fox Sports 1 card. With rumors speculating that Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will also be competing on the card, it has the potential to a truly stacked card.
