UFC 160 takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend. This card is essentially a stacked card with plenty of high stakes bouts. The main event pits Cain Velasquez against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, and the co feature is a heavyweight number one contenders bout with Junior Dos Santos against Mark Hunt. Here are the predictions for UFC 160:
Donald Cerrone vs KJ Noons
This fight should start off the pay-per-view event with a bang. Lately, Donald Cerrone has been the lightweight who can defeat all the opponents the UFC throws at him, but falls short against the elite. He just can’t seem to earn himself a title shot. KJ Noons is known more for his rivalry with Nick Diaz during their time in Elite XC and Strikeforce. Both fighters have excellent skill sets but Cerrone is more of an overall complete fighter.
Prediction: Donald Cerrone def. KJ Noons by submission in the second round.
TJ Grant vs Gray Maynard
The winner of this bout gets a shot at Benson Henderson, according to Dana White. Gray Maynard has already competed twice for the lightweight title resulting in a draw and a TKO loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 125 and 136. He has also been out for a year dealing with injuries. TJ Grant has looked phenomenal since dropping to lightweight from welterweight. He’s currently 4-0 as a lightweight. Look for Maynard to come out a little bit rusty, and for TJ Grant to overpower him throughout the fight.
Prediction: TJ Grant def. Gray Maynard by unanimous decision.
Glover Teixeira vs James Te Huna
Both of these light heavyweight fighters are looking to move into higher profile fights, so they can make their way up to becoming a contender. Glover has been heavily hyped since his debut, defeating Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146. He trains with John Hackleman and looked exceptional when defeating Rampage Jackson at UFC on Fox 6. Te Huna currently has a four-fight winning streak, lastly defeating Ryan Jimmo at UFC on Fuel TV 7. Glover should take this one, but both fighters are in for a long night.
Prediction: Glover Teixeira def. James Te Huna by unanimous decision.
Mark Hunt vs Junior Dos Santos
There is one thing guaranteed for this bout: this fight will not go to the judges. Both fighters are extremely heavy handed and have the ability to knock out their opponent with one punch. Mark Hunt has been nothing short of remarkable during his time in the UFC. He’s currently 4-0 in the heavyweight division, knocking out both Stefan Struve and Cheick Kongo in the process. Junior Dos Santos is looking to rebound from his loss to champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 155, and is determined to complete their trilogy. Junior is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt but never uses his submission skills. He usually looks for the knock out, but expect that to change.
Prediction: Junior Dos Santos def. Mark Hunt by submission in the first round.
Cain Velasquez vs Antonio “Big Foot” Silva
This main event offers a chance for redemption for Antonio Silva. They competed against each other once as the co-main event of UFC 146. Cain Velasquez was able to catch one of Silva’s leg kicks, take him down, and earn the win by means of TKO. This fight won’t end as quickly as their previous match up. Expect Silva to learn from his mistake and avoid the leg kicks. This fight will still end up being all about Cain Velasquez, but we will see it go five full rounds.
Prediction: Cain Velasquez def. Antonio Silva by unanimous decision.
