Chad Mendes va Clay Guida is in the works for UFC 164. These two perennial featherweight contenders are scheduled to lock horns in Milwaukee. Clay Guida used to be known for his aggressive style and his ability to make any fight exciting.
His bouts with Roger Huerta, Diego Sanchez, and Kenny Florian are all testaments to his unique fighting style. Although, recently he’s decided to have a more cautious approach to his fights. His bout with Gray Maynard at UFC on FX 4 left media and fans alike scratching their heads as to why Guida would try to play it safe.
Guida recently dropped to featherweight and defeated Hatsu Hioki back at UFC on Fox 6. and is looking to work his way up to number one contender status with a victory over Chad Mendes.
Chad Mendes, on the other hand, has looked nothing short of phenomenal since his knockout loss to featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 142. He’s currently 3-0 since that setback and has finished all of his opponents inside the first round.
Chad Mendes is currently ranked as the number one featherweight in the world, outside of Aldo, and Guida is currently ranked at number eight. Both fighters are looking to compete for the featherweight title in the near future. The winner of this fight validates their opportunity at competing against the winner of Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis at UFC 163 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
There has been no word as to whether this card will be showcased on the main card or not, but this should end up being an entertaining scrap. Who do you think will win?
