Roy Nelson recently stepped up to the plate for the UFC by offering to step in for Mark Hunt.
Nelson was originally a standby for Mark Hunt at UFC 160, if he was unable to compete on the card because of visa issues. Now that it is all squared away and taken care, the UFC decided to add Nelson to the next upcoming fight card, UFC 161.
The UFC 161 card recently took a hit as Renan Barao was scratched off the main event slot, being injured and deemed unable to compete. The UFC decided to bump up Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson into the main event. It looks like they are still looking for some star power on the card and Roy Nelson is the answer.
Roy Nelson is currently on a three-fight winning streak, defeating all of his opponents by way of a first round knock out. He was hoping to compete with a top 5 opponent in his next bout or even compete for the heavyweight title, but unfortunately he will have to wait.
Stipe Miocic is looking to get back into the winners column after his last fight. He was undefeated going into his bout with Stefan Struve at UFC on Fuel TV 5 but succumbed to a TKO loss 3:50 in the second round.
A win for Miocic will help erase that last loss and move him back up the UFC heavyweight rankings. According to UFC.com Roy Nelson is ranked 6, while Stipe Miocic is currently not ranked.
The UFC is pulling all the stops trying to save the event in Winnipeg, Canada. Will Roy Nelson help draw in ratings for the event? If you like first round knockouts, then Canada is in for a treat.
